What is P3O?
P3O stands for Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices.
P3O is guidance from the Cabinet Office specifically for programme and project offices. Like other Cabinet Office and AXELOS products (PRINCE2, MSP, MoR etc), P3O provides a point of reference for organisations and practitioners who work within a PMO. (See the AXELOS website for more information on P3O)
P3O brings together all the collective ideas and guidance that exists on the subject of Programme and Project Offices and is essential reading for anyone involved in the management or support of these functions. It is also a recommended read for senior management as they embark on establishing a PMO for the first time.
Many organisations have adopted the P3O model of setting up PMOs within their businesses and the guide covers establishing a PMO – and includes blueprints for those already familar with the MSP terminology – refreshing an existing PMO – details on the services the PMO could offer – and job descriptions of some of the key roles available within the PMO.
Arras People has job descriptions available which cover the roles available in the P3O guidance but are adapted for the current UK project management marketplace
