What Project Managers are Thinking Right Now

We launched the latest project management market report a few weeks ago about how project managers were feeling right now. We had some excellent feedback from people who completed the survey so we thought we would share some of their thoughts. Feel the same? Disagree? Let us know!

  1. Lindsay et al,
The problem as I see it is way too many people are looking for a JOB as project managers when, by the very nature of the beast (i.e. a defined start and end) instead of looking for a JOB they need to start looking at themselves as INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS and working on a project by project basis.

I am coming from a background in construction project management and this is the way it has been done for the 45+ years I have been a project management practitioner.

Bottom line-suck it up, and get used to this reality, which means that when you WORK, you need to be charging a premium for your services, knowing full well that it may be a while before you get your next gig….. ALSO keep in mind that if you are only “mediocre” as a project manager, you are going to be brutally and unceremoniously weeded out in the marketplace. It is NOT pretty out there and you are only as good as your last project. You have more than a couple of back to back “failures” and you will be a pariah…….

    Think about it…….
