PSO Project Manager - NHS

PSO Project Manager x 2 (NHS)

Purpose: Our client, one of London’s leading hospitals is looking for Project Managers to join their PSO to deliver new and ongoing operational projects. Reporting to the PSO Head of Programme Support the Project Managers will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects which will meet diverse strategic objectives within the organisation.

You will have 3 to 5 years proven experience working as a Project Manager with the flexibility to deliver a wide range of projects (eg. HR, IT, Clinical Process). You will be Prince accredited, and be used to working closely with Senior Responsible Officers. Operating alongside other team members you will take strategic and support responsibility to enable the development and initiation of your allocated change projects via the agreed Governance framework. You will deliver within the required tolerances on cost, time and quality. As a Project Manager you will not only be expected to have sound experience in project management but to also be passionate about the discipline and the propagation of its best practise


Key responsibilities

  • To work effectively in a Programme environment contributing to higher level Programme activities, plans and deliverables where appropriate
  • To pragmatically apply and demonstrate the value of utilising the organisations structured Programme/ Project Management methodology, templates and techniques
  • To act as a benefits “watchdog” for Senior Responsible Officers by monitoring performance against predicted benefits and to advise adaptations where benefit realisation is at risk
  • To act as a “Champion” for Programme and Project Management practises across the organisation
  • To provide coaching and mentoring services on delivering change to the peer group, Senior Managers and managers of organisational units within the organisation who have been tasked with programme and project delivery
  • To identify best practice from elsewhere and facilitate its adaptation/application within the organisations context
  • Where appropriate, support teams in the redesign of system processes, the production of service improvement plans, and the implementation of new ways of working
  • To develop the skills within project teams of independent continuous improvement and to ensure that the lessons learned from one project can be applied to other
  • To keep all Management and team members informed of progress and performance by adhering to the internal reporting regime templates, frequencies, timescales and standards
  • To contribute to the wider work of the PSO Team in facilitating Programme and Project Management capability enhancement and cultural change across the organisation

Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Accredited PRINCE2 or MSP practitioner
  • Practical experience of planning, monitoring and controlling significant programmes or major projects
  • Previous experience of delivering organisational change projects
  • Previous experience of leading a team of staff you do not directly manage
  • Experience of working in a Project/Programme support office structure
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully recognising and incorporating best practice from elsewhere and facilitating its adaptation/application
  • Experience of working with or managing externally-provided services
  • Evidence of working sensitively but effectively with professional staff in a diverse environment.

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to command respect and to create a sense of community amongst the members of project teams
  • Good systems or business process analysis skills
  • Sufficient credibility to advise managers on how project management may improve delivery of development/change ambitions
  • The ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
  • Ability to absorb and synthesise large quantities of new information quickly
  • Excellent administrative abilities and familiarity with software project management tools
  • Self starter
  • Flexible approach
