Purpose: My client, a spin off from a leading management, systems and technology consulting firm are currently looking to appoint a Programme Office Manager in order to support their 'go to market' strategy for their unique RFID based service.

In summary the relevant criteria that have evolved for this role are the following...

  • Evidence of achievement in previous roles, particularly PMO roles
  • Start-up company experience
  • Flexible in approach to the PMO role (e.g. not too methodology-oriented in their approach)
  • 'In sector' experience / exposure: Medical Device/Life sciences industry
  • Varied company experience (industry, size, scope of operation)


Reporting directly to the CEO, you will bring your demonstrable experience of having successfully established and managed highly effective programme management offices and the associated reporting arrangements, from inception to implementation. This success will have been built on your experience in implementing value-adding Programme Management in a dynamic, new product development and business start-up environment.

This key role will provide support to manage and control the organisations programme on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all delivery projects remain integrated and aligned to the high-level programme plan. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Programme Management Office - Implementing and running an effective Programme Management Office, to act as the ‘executive office’ to the organisation's directors through the provision of programme delivery advice and valuable insight.
  • Programme Integration - Integration and proactive management of cross programme plans and dependencies to ensure plans remain realistic and issues/potential conflicts are surfaced and resolved
  • Programme Methodologies - Developing and implementing project management methodologies, standards and controls, including drafting procedures and providing advice and training to the wider programme team. In the first instance this will include:
    • Integrated Planning - Definition and maintenance of the baseline programme level plan. The Programme Management Office will track project delivery and schedule variance for all projects within the venture programme.
    • Management Reporting - Definition and operation of the Programme reporting cycle. The Programme Management Office will assimilate programme information and conduct detailed analyses to ensure timely and accurate delivery of programme information to all interested stakeholders.
    • Programme Control Processes - Definition and operation of the management processes and controls required to deliver a successful Programme, including facilitation of risk and value management for project delivery teams

Salary Guide: £50K + Excellent Package including performance-based equity bonus scheme

Skills:

  • Excellent first degree or equivalent in Project Management or Business
  • Experience of new product development and business start-up projects
  • Track record of successful management and / or creation of programme management offices & associated reporting arrangements, from inception to implementation
  • Experience in implementing value-adding Programme Management support
  • Knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare would be advantageous
  • c.10 years experience within a project driven environment
  • The ability to control a comprehensive portfolio of projects
  • Evidence of leadership in substantial programmes with large diverse teams
  • A track record of working at all levels within an organisation up to Board level
  • The ability to combine technical expertise, strong interpersonal skills and commercial acumen to formulate and deliver pragmatic programme support solutions
  • The ability to seek resolution to difficult situations and determine ways forward
