PMO Practitioner - Passion for Programme Management Office

Purpose: Passionate about Programme Management Office (PMO)? We are looking for a Programme Office Practitioner who can work collaboratively with their assigned programme and project teams as an advisor and assessor in order to safeguard the successful delivery of programmes and their benefits.

You will have a demonstrable record of effective management of external and internal relationships, using effective influencing and persuading techniques and be highly committed to and capable of identifying and addressing your customers’ needs.

As an individual you will be articulate and passionate about the role of the PMO and have the necessary presence and credibility to effectively promote understanding and sell the benefits and values of the approach.

Purpose of Role

  • Manage and support programme-level reporting to the Executive and other key stakeholders
  • Ensure reports to convey a clear understanding of the current programme/project status, projections for milestone delivery, benefits, costs, resource plans, risks and issues
  • Ensure processes and documents used by the programme are aligned with the standards/templates of the Programme Management Office
  • Developing and monitoring project and programme plans and reviewing the progress with Project and Programme Managers. (Take stock – facilitating strategic workshops)
  • Ensure proactive programme and project management and encourage effective team collaboration, openness and delivery focused working practices
  • Ensuring programme risks, issues and inter-programme dependencies are monitored and proactively managed and/or escalated as appropriate
  • Ensuring that accurate and timely management information, programme documentation and reporting is delivered in line with the agreed governance arrangements
  • Promoting effective supplier management relationships through exchange and delivery of key information from respective programme plans
  • Providing a critical challenge to core documents (e.g. risk and issue registers) and processes to ensure the programme is being effectively managed
  • Identifying threats or barriers to the delivery of the programme that may have been overlooked and taking appropriate action to record and mitigate/resolve them
  • Constantly review the efficiency, effectiveness and suitability of the processes and documentation in managing the programme
  • Identify and implement (in consultation with the programme and PMO) any improvements that will improve programme controls
  • Providing guidance and support to the SRO/Programme Manager / Functional Head and the team with the administration and coordination of the programme

Skills:

  • Understanding of working in the government agency environment
  • Effective management of external and internal relationships, using effective influencing and persuading techniques and highly committed to and capable of identifying and addressing customers’ needs
  • Ability to objectively analyse complex and conflicting information and make effective judgements on appropriate course of action
  • Experience of working in a complex programme and project management environment. Familiar with MSP and Prince 2 methods
  • Ability to quickly identify and communicate the essence of a problem. Prioritise issues within a wider context. Raise issues tactfully and follow-up actions with tact and diplomacy
  • Discreet and able to handle confidential or sensitive information with confidence
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and information to a range of audiences and stakeholders
  • Used to working with senior management, in a fast moving, flexible environment
  • Conversant in MSP, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
