Marie Curie Cancer Care and Arras
Cutting Through the CV Clutter

Marie Curie Cancer Care is a registered charity providing end of life care to terminally ill patients in their own homes, or in one of nine hospices. Marie Curie Cancer Care are constantly looking to improve the way they work, as the Innovation team designs, develops and evaluates new approaches to care at the end of life and drives evidence based change across the charity and the NHS. Due to an increase in development work resulting in the need for an additional Senior Project Manager, Arras People consultant Michael Hides took charge of Marie Curie's requirements.
Too Many CVs, Not Enough Emphasis on the Qualities of a Good PM
Marie Curie Cancer Care had undertaken a recruitment campaign and whilst they had seen a large number of CVs these did not meet the requirement. From discussions with the managers within Marie Curie, it became evident that any successful candidate would require experience in service re-design. Above all else, it needed a candidate with the passion and determination to lead successful change.
Tailoring to Fit the Recruitment Needs
The successful candidate provided around nine years of project management experience, with particular emphasis on service development and re-design, often engaging with stakeholders (eg Public health managers, NHS senior management) and subject matter experts such as paediatricians, dieticians, GPs and school nurses.
Arras People's registered project management professionals come from a variety of organisations, sectors and business functions - they also vary in seniority from co-ordinators right through to programme directors. Events Project Manager

Age Concern (Age UK), the well known charitable organisation for older people, has worked with Arras People on a number of long-term project roles. Normally Age Concern would have approached a high street recruiter to help source this kind of role but this time they wanted to make sure the Events Project Manager had the right project skills to fit their organisation. Working with Arras People allows our clients to try new methods of recruiting staff, in this case, using a niche project recruitment company we were able to bring more experienced professionals to the shortlist.
