Interim Head of Development Services (Facilities / Building Maintenence)

Purpose: Our client one of the largest schools in their field in the United Kingdom are looking to recruit an Interim Head of Development Services. Responsible to the Director of Estates and a member of the senior management team you will maintain a quality service for building maintenance and minor works development and to take the lead on the strategic development of the development services.

  • As an interim your focus will be to Manage and monitor site development work for project values ranging from £75k to £2 million
  • Must have excellent experience of working with the planning process, and the stakeholders namely planning authorities and contractors

Your main duties will include:

  • To take an active part in the strategic and operational management of the Estate leading in the development of the development services
  • To directly manage and provide leadership for the estate development, health and safety and town planning
  • To manage and coordinate all major capital development works in a efficient and safe manner
  • To prioritise and balance the strategic and operational issues of the teams workload
  • To directly manage and provide leadership for the Health and Safety team
  • To advise on the relevant town planning matters including changes in the planning legislation, liaison with the relevant planning authorities at both officer and member level
  • To liaise regularly with all Estates senior staff to ensure an integrated approach to the management and development of the estate
  • To provide regular management reports as appropriate and when required and to attend relevant committees as required
  • To maintain effective and appropriate procedures
  • To take an active role in the health and safety of staff, students and visitors
  • To liaise regularly with staff, students and external agencies in the pursuance of the role
  • To represent the Director of Estates at meetings and events as appropriate
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager

This is a full time job spec even though this is an interim role.

Location: Hertfordshire or London (work will required at both sites)

Type: Contract

Salary Guide: £negotiable guide £45K pro rata

Start Date: ASAP 3 to 4 months


Skills:

  • Relevant professional academic qualification RICS, CIOB or equivalent with a Diploma or equivalent as a minimum.
  • As an interim your focus will be to Manage and monitor site development work for project values ranging from £75k to £2 million
  • Must have excellent experience of working with the planning process, and the stakeholders namely planning authorities and contractors
  • Report writing skills
  • Evidence of good budgetary management;
  • Ability to work with the MS Office suite of programmes.
  • Clean driving licence
  • At least 2 years experience of managing people;
  • Town Planning qualification
  • Project Management qualification

  • Experience in an HEI would be an advantage
