About Leeds Metropolitan University

Leeds Met

The Centre for Project Management at Leeds Metropolitan University was created in response to the demand for Project Management education and training in the region.

Over recent times the work has been:

  • Assisting a local council department to implement a feasible programme management scheme. This work involved discussions with staff from the department and the development of an appropriate IT solution using PM software. A subsequent training programme was developed to help the roll out of the new system.
  • Similar work has been taken within the University where departments developing research bids or actually undertaking research projects have outsourced their project planning and tracking to the Centre.
  • Project Management Training - a training needs analysis was undertaken for Yorkshire Water's Mains Rehabilitation function. Assistance was provided by the Centre in the subsequent setting up of a programme of training to address the perceived needs.
  • Further work with the utility led to the development of a methodology for its smaller projects.
  • A leading UK house-builder to establish the feasibility of introducing a Project Management Software system to both integrate data and improve productivity on site by a move towards JIT materials handling.
  • Very recently, a local council has asked us to deliver our 'Intensive Short Course in Project Management' to its staff with a view to exposing them to a generic text-book view of what Project Management has to offer. Subsequent discussion sessions have then been used to see where the organisation feels it needs to improve its project performance.
