Voluntary Project Management
You might be interested in using your project management experience for the greater good or trying to gain experience in project management. Voluntary roles can be one way to reach your goal.
Arras People wanted to be able to flag these opportunities to a wider pool of candidates - benefiting both parties. We have voluntary and unsalaried positions on our job board. All these opportunities are listed free of charge for the advertising organisation.
If we're not carrying any voluntary positions at the moment, you should also try Charity Jobs
Volunteering and Breaking into Project Management
Getting your foot in the door within project management may seem an impossible task - it is becoming a career of choice for many.
Consider a voluntary post as a potential opportunity for gaining that much need project management experience. Charities, third sectors and not-for-profit organisations across the country are looking for volunteer project focused people to join their organisation.
In exchange for precious project management skills, organisations are looking for volunteers with;
- strong coordination
- project team communication
- management & control of budgets
- issue resolution oversight
- planning (projects, schedules, etc.)
- time management
- scope consideration
- stakeholder management
If you have the ability to work on a voluntary basis - unpaid for a stretch of time (be ready to set aside a couple of months), this track is the one to take. TAnd just because you're checking out voluntary sector roles does not necessarily mean the paid roles are all taken up. According to one Guardian author, the competitive nature of the economy is not so much stronger in the third sector as it is in the private and public sectors; rather, an enormous wealth of roles are still up for grabs. Those ready for opportunities in human rights campaigning or other related internationally-inclined third sector work are just as graduate-friendly as in the pre-meltdown climate.
As with many sectors, the highest volume of roles will likely be entry-level (marketing/communications assistant, admin, campaign assistant, etc.), so career changers may need to be prepared for a personal finance shake-up.
