APM PMO SIG

What is the APM PMOSIG?

The Programme and Project Office Specialist Interest Group (PMO SIG) is a not for profit organisation which is owned by its members. Membership is free and open to anyone employed or interested in Programme and Project Offices in any industry.

Its aim and objectives are to provide a forum for PMO professionals to meet and discuss matters of mutual importance. The PMOSIG has gone from strength to strength since its conception in 2000 and events are planned with its members needs in mind. The PMO is an excellent  bi-annual event which makes sure there is enough time to network with other like minded people.

In 2011 the PMOSIG started the journey to becoming a new Specific Interest Group within the Association for Project Management (APM). The transition start in the summer of 2011 when the group was formally approved as a new SIG. The PMOSIG are now in the final stages of becoming the APM PMO SIG. You can find out more about the PMO SIG via the APM website:

The Next Conference

Lean and Nimble PMO PMOSIG ConferenceThe Lean and Nimble PMO:
When Enough is Good Enough

The Spring APM PMOSIG conference will take place on Thursday 26th April in Coventry, UK.

The Lean and Nimble PMO: When Enough is Good Enough

Quick, light, nimble, lean and agile are just some of the words that we wouldn’t normally associate with PMOs but in this year’s spring conference we focus on adding value to the business when just enough is good enough.

The conference kicks off with an introduction to the Lean PMO from PMOSIG Chairman, Chris Walters. Setting the scene for the day we ask the question, “Is my PMO doing too much – and how can we balance how lean we become before the risks become unmanageable?”.

Pop-Up restaurants and shops became the de rigueur of 2011, venues that are temporary, Pop-Ups appear one day and are gone within weeks. Pop-Up PMOs from Sion Jones takes a look at what is needed when programmes and projects need a PMO ASAP. The blueprint to quickly set up and run a PMO; the lifecycle of the PMO; and when just enough is good enough to support urgent programmes and projects are all covered in this presentation with interactive sessions.

Quick Wins from PMOSIG favourite Peter Taylor -The Lazy Nimble PMO Manager – takes a look at what are quick wins in relation to PMOs. What are the tried and tested quick wins in relation to PMO set up or refreshing a PMO? If you had to focus on a few things in your PMO, what would you focus on, and how would you deliver them?

The fourth session of the day and we look at agile and agile PMO from Peter Measey. Peter takes us through an interactive session and presentation on two approaches – agile philosophy applied to PMOs and agility in services that the PMO offers.

Finally to round up the day and focus on our behavioural skills we look at Strategies for Creating Rapport Quickly from Dr Peter Parkes. This final session will leave delegates with an essential toolkit that allows you to build rapport quickly with key stakeholders building both short term and long term effective constructive relationships.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities to network and connect with other PMO professionals. The conference will also include the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
