Just had a few hours out in Manchester visiting an e-commerce exhibition which was being hosted at the Hilton in Deansgate, apart from the exhibition we were lucky enough to blag a look at the executive suite on the 23rd floor. Stunning views today across the Pennines and of course glorious weather but the view also reminded me of just how Manchester became one big building project after the bombing in 1996. Building is still going on today with the many apartment blocks still going up (who is buying them all??). In
fact there’s been so many projects since 1996 the city has become transformed, especially as many of the new buildings have been built from glass, it seems Manchester has turned into the Glass City. In fact, Manchester used the 1996 bombing as a turning point in its regeneration and from then on the city centre has seen regeneration of its city centre and expansion to inner city areas. It will be interesting to see the effects of the economic times on Manchester’s landscape but I for one are glad the building projects started up in earnest in ’96 because on such a beautiful day, 23 floors up, Manchester is twinkling like a little diamond in the North West
