I’ve always thought it would be a great idea to come up with something that would allow project managers to experience a nightmare project without the problem of it being a REAL nightmare project. Talk to many project managers and they’ll tell you that a lot of what they have learnt about project management – both good and bad – has come through the experiences in their career. But that means each and every project manager is going to have to experience the bad for the first time. A first time when everything you’ve learnt up to that point isn’t going to work when your first bad project happens. It’s a bit chicken and egg isn’t it?
Back in November 2011, Peter Taylor (The Lazy PM) approached Arras People about sponsoring a new book – a free ebook which was being created about the Project From Hell. Peter was writing it alongside Michael Finer, another pal from Dylanmae.
The book is available free to download from Amazon – a Kindle version or more information from the Project From Hell website
The book – if you’re familiar with Peter’s flagship book ‘The Lazy Project Manager’ – starts with more from Peter on the art of laziness in project management. The second part of the book is surprisingly simple but effective. Written in the style of a workshop, the reader is taken through the project from hell. With the workshop style of the book it would make a great team activity on a project; something which could easily be run by the PMO for the project organisation or even for students. It’s a great free resource that specifically addresses something which every project manager has to face at some point in their career.
Congratulations to Peter & Michael for introducing it to the PM community. The book was officially launched in London on Thursday 28th July.
