THE CAREERS ADVISER: Certification Pandora & Newly Hired = Still Looking

A sort of Pandora’s Box* is opened today at the Careers Adviser podcast from Arras People. The contents of that box? You guessed it: project management certifications.

Our own Lindsay Scott offers her expertise on questions regarding both this and also a unique scenario where a part-time Project Manager early on the job worries about how soon this recent hiring should go on their CV, which is still being bandied about for more suitable, full-time roles.

The Careers Adviser Podcast from Arras People takes some questions and concerns we hear every day on the job from candidates, and then puts the voice of an expert in the project management careers field behind a legitimate answer to the questions.

Have a read at the questions we’ll tackle, and then have a listen from the link below.

  • I have been working as a project manager for the last four years, I would like to step up to the next tier (senior level), however I do not have any formal qualifications in project management. Can you suggest a good all rounder, I have been previously advised to study PRINCE2 but some feel it is lengthy and can drag out a project. Obviously the qualification needs to be recognised nationally or internationally.
  • I have just recently started work as a part-time Project Manager with a local charity. As it is only part-time I am still in the market for a full-time Coordinator type position. However, I am unsure as to whether to add this role to my CV. From a recruiter’s perspective, will the fact that I’m applying for jobs with a recently started position on my CV work against me? I look forward to your advice, thanks in advance.
