With many employees and contractors facing the threat of redundancy, it has prompted a wave of fresh candidates on the job market, specifically looking to see what the market is like and get their CV out there. With that there comes a quirky little issue, which in the recruitment field you don’t tend to see very often.
So what could it be?
Candidates from the same organisation are applying for the same job – nothing funny there you might think, the quirky thing is some of the candidates have identical job roles and responsibilities.
Well you might think that within a large organisation this is possible, two people doing exactly the same job within the same department and indeed within the same programme of work. Coincidences do indeed happen. But could there really be two Programme Office Managers within one programme of work? I think it’s more likely that one candidate is the real PMO Manager and the other a PMO co-ordinator being a little economical with the truth.
It makes it fun and interesting here at Arras People a little like the line up on Never Mind the Buzzcocks – will the real PMO Manager please step forward.
This is an interesting issue with two lessons to be learnt (1) make sure you use a recruitment consultant who knows which questions to ask to get to the truth (2) when you work on your CV, don’t be tempted to big yourself up too much because a, you will get found out when interviewers begin to probe and b, you’re doing the other candidate (with the right credentials) a disservice
I think we’ll continue to see quirky little issues like this as the job market continues to be a buyers market and candidates will be looking for ways to make sure their CV gets placed on the shortlist pile.
