I am pulling together a collection of the various sayings, cliches, metaphors and understatements and how they are used in relation to projects and what they are trying to communicate.
To start the ball rolling a couple of my favorites:-
“A project should have a beginning a middle and an end” – Projects have a finite life they are not business as usual
“Nine women cannot have a baby in one month” – Throwing more resources at it won’t necessarily make it happen any quicker in fact more resources may slow it down!
What are your favorites and what words of wisdom do they convey?
PS If you can also indicate the source that would be a bonus!

‘Project Management is an unnatural process; it is much more fun to do something. And the nicest thing about not managing your project is that failure comes as a complete surprise rather than being preceded by months of worry and depression.’
Sir John Harvey-Jones
