Yesterdays Sunday Times featured an article on project management, it was aimed mostly at an audience who may be unfamilar with project management as a career choice. Entitled “Project Managers Steam Ahead” it looked at the profession from the angle of the changes we’re seeing in terms of education and accreditation and also what others in the project management sector thought about it as a career choice.
Interestingly, job satisfaction was citing as a reason why project management has been evolving as a career of choice. I think we sometimes forget to discuss just what motivates a project manager to do his or her job everyday and it’s good to see job satisfaction being a primary motivator.
As the article was aimed at people new or unfamilar to project management I was asked to describe what a project manager does;
“With The Apprentice still fresh in our minds, the title project manager may feel familiar but what exactly does it mean? Lindsay Scott, a director of Arras People, said: “A project manager is the person who directs a team to get a job done in a controlled manner using the best tools and processes available.”
How would you have described the role of project manager?
