Just received the new newsletter from “Portfolio, Programme, Project and Risk Management News” from the OGC (Office of Government Commerce) You can also see their other website http://www.best-management-practice.com/
Anyhow, featured are the latest updates and news on P3O (we blogged about it here), PRINCE2, MSP, MoR etc. Having looked at the P3O stuff in more detail, and chatting to others in the PMO field who have had the opportunity to form part of the review group, it looks like this is something we PMO-ers can look forward to seeing. It’s not due for release until the Autumn but you can sign up to see the latest news at http://www.best-management-practice.com/P3-Office-P3O/
The parts I’m particularly interested to see are the Models – different models to fit certain organisations / departments / set ups etc. Value is another area which I’m sure professionals in this area would welcome – it’s always a hot topic at the PPSOSIG events too.
The interesting thing about the P3O is how come now? I’ve been working within this field for over 10 years and its been interesting to see how organisations have developed a programme office (or not) and how much the “good” programme office managers have been in demand, after all it’s not as if there is an exact science to the implementation and ongoing management of a PMO. It will also be interesting to see what happens after the P3O model comes fully on line (qualifications and all…) – will this spell the end to management consultancies cashing in on PMO implementation services when an organisation now has the method and know-how to go it alone?
We wait with bated breath!
