Permanent placements in Dec 09 UP whilst one in three workers ‘ready for change’!

Personneltoday.com are reporting that according to a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), One in three UK workers would leave their existing job if they could!

A staggering 33% of UK employees apparently reported that given the opportunity they would pack their bags and move on as they do not feel valued by their current employer during the recession!

Just as interesting, 23% of their respondents who do feel valued by their employer would, given the chance consider moving on regardless of this fact.

It is interesting that the term “during the recession” was highlighted to make this topical as January is always a time when many people are reviewing their position, ambitions and plans for the year ahead.
We always see a spike in the number of new registrants at Arras People during January and also an increase in responses to jobs posted.

In other news the latest REC/KPMG index of permanent placements by recruitment agencies rose to 62.8 in December from 61.7 in November – the fifth consecutive month it has been above the 50 level that separates growth from contraction and the highest since July 2007.

Whilst this is good news, the concern must still be that once the general election has passed the new Government (whatever its colour) will roll out the measures to tackle the deficit problems. This will surely accelerate the reduction in Public sector spending that we are already beginning to see, leading directly to increases in job loses with the knock on effect of fewer opportunities for the Private sector.

So whilst people are still looking for change, we predict that once again 2010 will see a large number of the PPM community sitting tight until a clear picture returns as predicted by the 2009 Arras People Project Management Benchmark Report.

If you haven’t yet given your perspective on the marketplace during 2009 and your outlook for 2010 why not visit www.arraspeople.co.uk/PMReport/ where you will find the latest Arras People survey. As ever we are dependent upon the UK PPM community to help us by completing the annual survey from which the 2010 Arras People Project Management Benchmark Report will be compiled.
