OGC Project Products Round Up

Following on from the BPUG Congress last week, the event which focuses on the OGC suite of programme and project management products, I wanted to share with you some of the changes that will happening in 2010. There’s also a chance to win a copy of the PRINCE2:2009 pocketbook.

Last year saw the biggest change for PRINCE2 with a refresh project which saw the introduction of both Managing and Directing Successful Projects with PRINCE2. The OGC have recently added some new material to their OGC Best Management Practice website and includes a recent paper on how PRINCE2 sits with the Association of Project Management’s own accreditations. Mike Acaster, manager of the OGC portfolio of products, spoke at the BPUG Congress and said that there would be further communications and white papers available on PRINCE2 throughout 2010.

The Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) publication will also see a new revision in 2010, specifically the revisions will address; “the MSP themes of risk, quality and benefits; and the transformational flows in the guide and address consistency issues raised through the change control system.” There’s an indepth document that covers these changes for anyone interested in that detail. There doesn’t seem to be any impact on the associated training and accreditations.

The biggest change in current publications and accreditations is ITIL, which is in its 20th year in 2010. ITIL in 2010 will be version 3 and there will be a withdrawal of version 2

Following the draft guide of Portfolio Management in 2009, the OGC will be going ahead with further guidance aimed at; “Board members and senior managers and Practitioners working day-to-day”. My recommendation is that you take a copy of the existing Portfolio Management draft guide until the new guidance is out.

You may also be aware of the release of P3M3 in 2008, P3M3 is the Portfolio, Programme and Project Management Maturity Model which organisations can use to assess their own maturity in terms of programme and project management capability. This has recently been updated (Feb 2010) and the latest version can be accessed here

Finally, P3O, the Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices guidance launched its new Practitioner level accreditation in January 2010, they’ve also release a new whitepaper on the Business Benefits of a P3O

To keep up to date with all the project products updates from OGC and for the release of whitepapers and other news, the OGC Best Management Practice website is the best resource

We also have a little prize to give away with this blog posting, three copies of the PRINCE2:2009 Pocketbook from the TSO, they were next door to Arras People at the BPUG Congress so we managed to get a few copies for our lucky readers!
