Last few days before we head into the lovely Bank Holiday season and I thought I would share with you some of the recent blog postings I’ve been reading (I’m thinking that you might have a little more time to sit with a coffee and Easter egg and have a catch up!)
First up, a post from PC Advisor about leaving your job and the impact this has on your social media activities – it asks the question about what happens with the profiles you’ve set up which may be work related. It looks like its still a grey area. Meanwhile, HR Magazine featured an article about how 52% of organisations are not ready for social media tools to help in the recruitment process and 49% of workers or job seekers equally not using this technology. An article to maybe take a look at is the Secrets to Getting Your Next Job Using Social Media from the CareerProject
In terms of project management specific blogs if you only have 5 minutes to spare, take a look at Geoff Crane’s recent post on The Hiring Manager Black Hole, particularly if you’re also feeling the frustrations in the job market. Patrick Mayfield also takes a look at the more “people” side of project management with a post called Hurry Sickness I particularly liked the hurriedness of organisations observation. Everyone likes a list and over on the PM Hut there is a great post on the 20 Best Practices for Project Managers – as one reader commented “great tips and reminders”. I’ve also discovered Bernardo Tirado’s blog; The Project Box, which probably doesn’t describe Bernardo’s offerings well enough. He’s an industrial psychologist with a project management focus which is an area I’m really interested in. The blog post on using Lego to asssess group dynamics is a recent one which I enjoyed.
Finally some more recruitment focused articles which I think are applicable to any project management professional. Tim Tyrrell-Smith’s Ideas for Job Search Career and Life is a website packed with great content to inspire you in the job hunt process. If you’re looking at job boards at the moment and wondering will it ever turn up the right job for you, take a look at HRevolution‘s blog post about using Monster. A quote from the article sums up job seeking for me; “A job seeker needs to utilize all the tools available to them to find the right employment opportunities.” For a totally different vibe, check out Cynical Girl’s blog, current post Summer Interviews is perfect for the beautiful weather we’re having now.
Happy Holidays!
