The International Project Management Day was my first interaction with the PMI and the event felt like professionals sharing ideas rather than anyone trying to hard sell a product/service. The layout of the room and the ‘stage’ created a professional and positive atmosphere.
The presentations tended to reiterate the same message but as they tackled the subject in different ways you were still left with something new from each one. The sessions were accurately timed (we should expect nothing less from the PMI) and it was good to see that not only did the speakers stay for the whole day but had obviously listened to what each other had to say. Only once did I fear the onset of a hard sell but that quickly moved to probably one of the most entertaining sessions of the day.
For me the true test of the event was the amount of people that were still there at the end (2/3 – 3/4 I would estimate) and given that the people I spoke to were very busy people they obviously felt that the time spent was worthwhile.
This was my first experience with the PMI and I hope it will not be the last.
