April the 6th 2009 sees the launch of part of the Government’s response to the economic downturn, as the Department for Work and Pensions, the DWP will introduce a specialist job search support offering for clients with professional / executive occupational backgrounds.
This initiative appears to recognise that the Job Centre is currently meeting a breed of client which they do not have the skills to help and manage through a tough period of career transition. As such they are enlisting the help of professional private sector providers to assist in processing these new clients.
To us at Arras People this is not a new idea, in fact for a number of years now we have been offering career and CV advice to many of our clients (candidates) who find themselves either looking for a new role, a new challenge or towards that next ladder on the career structure. As a team we find this a great service to deliver and a refreshing change from the day to day recruitment activity. Being able to offer inside information, opinion and act as a sounding board is great fun and rewarding.
“The provision is primarily aimed at unemployed people who have recently left a professional or executive job and claimed JSA (Job Seekers Allowance). The service would also be available to people engaged through the Job Centre Plus Rapid Response Service (RRS) who are under notice of redundancy or haven’t yet claimed JSA.
Professionals and executives who lack the up to date jobsearch skills required to enable them to conduct effective jobsearch and/or who need advice on how to transfer or update their skills to secure relevant jobs will be referred to this service by Jobcentre Plus advisers.”
If you’re currently in this position talk to your Jobcentre Plus adviser about the new launch and see where you can tap into expert resources.
