Friday Afternoon Project Management Chat

Following on from our articles a while back about the project management community on Twitter (see Part I, Part II to get started) we wanted to share with you a neat little idea from two prominent tweeters. Robert Kelly and Rob Prinzo - both project management practitioners from the US – have launched a concept called #PMchat.

Basically every Friday afternoon there is a short 15 minute broadcast (called a Pre-Game Radio Show) available to listen to on an area of project management then for one hour afterwards – project managers on Twitter discuss the topic in more detail.

Last week’s #PMchat discussion was about “So you want to start a PMO?“. The #pmchat website had a guest article from Steve Carter who was set to join the broadcast and set the scene for the discussion later that day on Twitter.

The broadcasts take place at 12pm EST time (so about 5pm UK time) and can be accessed via the website (you can also check out previous broadcasts)

After the broadcast the floor opens to the project management community on twitter. Both Robert and Rob kick off with a question to get things moving and then project managers join the debate. Each tweet has “#PMchat” included (see below) so you can see the conversation from everyone involved.

For example; in the tweet line below, question 4 was around – who is the PMO’s sounding board? Some answers below start with A4.

Later in the following week there is also a synopsis available so you can revisit for a recap

The one hour session is a great way to interact with others in the community; a chance to wind down on a Friday afternoon with a mix of conversation, light hearted debate and occasional disagreements. It’s informal, fun yet informative. To learn more and get involved you can visit the #PMchat website, find out more in the LinkedIn group or visit the Radio Show page which features the next show (and previous ones)
