Arras People is with it!

It’s clearly a sign of the times when even my mother has a social networking page.

Granted, hers is an extenuating circumstance. She loves to stay in touch with a son who’s living abroad and will utilise any tool that allows her to communicate with me (not to mention her two daughters, who have a knack for seeing the world that’s in no small part thanks to me!), but the fact remains that socialisation in the Internet age has reached its zenith with Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and the like.

With this mcnugget mchatched in my mcmind, I took an idea forward to one of my superiors in the office and all but stated that we, too, needed to get with the times.

“If mum (I said ‘mom’, but credit me, for I do know my audience!) can do it, why the ‘ell (I said ‘hell’, ditto the last set of parentheses) can’t the folks at Arras People?” I asked, incredulous and as defiant as you can be on my salary.

After a reprimanding and a reminder of what a significant stranglehold a pay cut to that salary would do if I continued with my insubordination, they managed to wade through my venom and admit that I was onto something. And guess whose baby this project is, dear PM Brethren?

Hopefully the addition of a Facebook page by Arras People doesn’t devolve into one of those goofy plotlines where the past its prime father tries to show he’s down with the kids, then bellows some ancient catchphrase like ‘Groovy!’ or ‘Muppet!’ Far from it: The whole ‘get with the times’ vibe in this article is just a poor shot at humour.

Arras People, or as I like to call them, AP, get it. We go out and do things as a group. We keep in touch with friends (clients and candidates) and we’re always on the lookout for more. Personally, I found my old next door neighbour through Facebook a few weeks ago (insert touching TV commercial for Facebook here), then got to talking about what he’s doing now. After he complemented my newborn daughter, he mentioned that he was working in Florida as a Project Manager for Commercial. Insert touching TV commercial for Arras People here.

We invite all project management professionals, clients and graduates to check us out and see the faces behind the Arras People name. With updates on project management occurrences and an updating of AP events, the Arras People Facebook page is THE social networking site for project management.

Was my mum the inspiration for this undertaking? Indeed. As for other social networking possibilities? Just imagine them while I try to convince my Dad (speaking of ‘get with the times’) by way of a cord-tangled rotary dial phone to get an email address sorted.

Don’t hold your mcbreath.
