We at Arras People are often confronted via telephone with eager young workers ‘looking to get into project management’ (in spite of all the literature trying to show them ways to do so, direct contact seems to remain the preferred manner of contact).
Well, here’s an avenue these eager beavers may not have considered en route to a PM career – the charity / voluntary sector.
With opportunities to volunteer aplenty and the traits that can serve the PM professional well, Arras People are now trying to bring the realities of the project management field in a volunteering position home with Arras in the Community – The Groundwork Volunteer Project.
A former Arras People intern sponsored by Arras, Zoe just finished week one of a 13-week volunteer placement programme with Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale that is designed to teach the ideals of project management fundamentals through environment/regeneration means.
Make sure to check in each week for updated diary entries and a further look into the elements of project management that await the next eager PM professional. In addition, we hope to sponsor a recent graduate next year as they undertake a similar volunteer sector project. Keep your eyes on the Camel for future details, which will also be made available at the Community Volunteer Project page.
