Our own Managing Director, John Thorpe, is off to London next week for a presentation hosted by the British Computer Society (BCS). Thorpe will serve as a one of four guest presenters and panellists for the debate in a session titled ‘Is There Really a Project Management Skills Gap?’
Representing Arras People after a career that spans a variety of facets within the project management
industry, Thorpe hopes to bring his experience within the sector to answer questions regarding the supposed PM skills gap, including recruitment trends and salaries, skills required in IT project/programme management and whether they are being met, the emergence of different professional skills requirements from professional bodies, and the employer’s perspective on training and development needs for project management professionals.
“For project management professionals 2009 promises to be an interesting year as the APM progresses its initiative to attain chartered status and puts in place the entry standards and criteria for Chartered Project Professionals,” he said. “Skill levels along with professional competence will be hot topics amongst practitioners and across the many sectors where project professionals ply their trade.”
Time remaining for booking a BCS-member place at the event is nearly passed, and if seats are still available then guest places will open to the public. For more information, please check out the BCS web site.
