A Romp With the APM North West

Recently, Arras People colleague Steve Trippier and I both attended the latest members evening for the North West branch of the APM at the Romper Inn in Wilmslow. These events are always a good opportunity to meet like minded individuals and gain a greater understanding to how others approach Project Management in their own working environments.

Primarily promoted as being a ‘Meet and Greet’ affair, the event was well-attended considering it was a wet and windy evening in early November. Delegates from various sector types attended with representatives from some big organisations such as Mace and Astra Zeneca. As such we were able to have a good chin wag with a variety of people and get a good flavour for the general mood at the moment (which I should say isn’t all as negative as some people might expect; there seems to be a fair bit of positivity out there at the moment in terms of how projects are being delivered and scope for upcoming delivery).

Neither rain nor wind could keep our intrepid consultants away from a recent APM Local Event.

The evening was tied together by a Project Management-themed quiz, which above all else encouraged everyone to get into the networking spirit and share experiences and knowledge. I should say at this point that our team romped home (excuse the pun) to an impressive victory, securing the APM’s Competency Framework book as our prize.

As always, the event proved to be a good opportunity to establish some new contacts and re-establish previously forged relationships; something which can only be encouraged in the current climate. These types of events are run all over the country on a regular basis by the APM, and are certainly worth signing up for, particularly for those people who are looking to branch out and expand their experience level. Who knows? It could even help you secure your next role; such is the power of effective networking!
